UNITY WEEK August 18 - 23 (Monday - Saturday)

Beginning August 18 - 23 Monday thru Saturday, members from several cultures will take part in a Unity Day community initiative called the “Community Center Cultural Exchange Program.” During this week, people will experience, taste, and embrace communities that they have never seen before. Participating community centers will have performances in traditional dress, art exhibits, slide show presentations, cultural delicacies, language lessons and more. Here is the cultural exchange schedule:

Monday: Experience the roots of Africa right here in Houston on August 18th. To get more information call (713) 271-8988

Tuesday: Travel to China without leaving Houston August 19th. Witness the Chinese Community Center and the exquisite traditions that make their culture so unique. For more information about The Chinese Community Center visit www.ccchouston.org.

Wednesday: A prominent aspect of Houston is its Jewish neighborhoods. August 20th, take time to learn about the Jewish faith, values, and renowned culture. Check out www.jcchouston.org to see more.

UNITY DAY HOUSTON CELEBRATION

The week long cultural celebration does not stop on Friday. Join us Saturday, August 23th for the Unity Day celebration at Miller Outdoor Theatre in Hermann Park. We have a full day of Unity oriented activities that will be guaranteed fun for every member of your family and their friends.

11AM – 3PM Unity Day at The Houston Zoo
Take the family to the Zoo! Unity Day Houston and The Houston Zoo are providing half price admission to see all of the wonderful animals at our prestigious Houston Zoo.

2PM – 6PM Unity Day Kid's Zone
Bring your children to the overwhelming fun Unity Day Kids Zone! We are featuring several international dance groups cultural vocalists and games from the various community centers across the city. While you are here release some energy in one of the multiple inflatable slides and houses. There will be community representatives on hand to provide more information about their culture and Unity Trivia with fun prizes for everyone!

2PM – 10PM Unity Day Market Place
Taste, purchase, and enjoy everything that is cultural about Houston in the Unity Day Market Place. There will be several vendors displaying items from across the globe. Get something that you have never experienced before.

7PM – 10PM Unity Day Concert
The evening only gets better with the Unity Concert featuring various artists known around the City of Houston. We will feature several styles of music and dance. You do not want to miss this musical and dance celebration.
